Abstract
At the time when the research for this study was initiated, in the 1985/86 academic year, Toronto was already a multicultural city. There was no doubt that the process of multuculturalization of Canadian society in general and the City of Toronto in particular was going to intensify. Europe was already exhausted as a source of immigrants recruited to fulfill the unmet labour requirements of Canada. Increasingly, Canada looked towards the Caribbean, Asia, Africa, and South America for new immigrants.
