Abstract

I began the present inquiry with the intent of examining my role in the conflicts that occur between me and my students in our classroom. According to Long (2000), in many conflicts between teachers and students, the teacher is responsible for escalating the conflict. Although students may initiate the conflict, in most cases, the teacher’s responses trigger further inappropriate behaviours. My goal was to examine my actions when dealing with students who exhibited some kind of inappropriate behaviours, and then look for patterns or habits that either improved the situation or made it worse.
