Abstract

The theory of the emotions has played a key role in phenomenological theory since its beginnings, given that it refers, at least in the first instance, to a specific and fundamental class of psychic phenomena together with presentations and judgments. In Brentano’s classical formulation, emotional phenomena are ontologically founded on (i.e., dependent on) presentations, i.e., there are no emotions in absence of presentations. Like presentations, they too are intentional.1

The place of psychology is among the biological sciences, since it studies those “phenomena of life” which, in fact, are phenomena of the “psychic life”.
