Abstract

Based on the seismic characteristics of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding regions, the earthquakes during the last century have been investigated and the related fault breaks and some tsunamis in the region are analyzed. The computer model TSUNAMI-N1, at the Tohoku University, is modified to satisfy for the boundary conditions and bathymetry of the Aegean Sea and a version TSUNAMI-N1EGE, is developed. This model is applied to investigate the generation and propagation of the “1956 Southern Aegean Tsunami” and an expected hypothetical “Andicithira Tsunami”.
