Abstract
The abstract mathematical formulation developed in Part I of this book obtains a physical, chemical, biological, or sociological meaning only after the transition rates have been concretely determined. Approaches for the transition rates can be found by plausibility considerations but, in the end, they must be empirically checked (cf. Chap. 11).
