Abstract
The grammars presented in Chapter 2 were extremely simple because it was the main purpose of that chapter to clarify the concept of isomorphy. In this chapter we will consider some of the essential concepts that are required in order to be able to use more realistic grammars. The type of grammar actually used is called M-grammar,a computationally viable variant of Montague Grammar (the prefix M in M-grammar derives from Montague). It will soon become clear that more realistic grammars require much more than just operations on strings. Most of the concepts to be introduced are fairly standard, though they have certain specific properties in M-grammars.
