From Negation to Acceptance

The Reception of the Heliocentric Theory in Polish Schools in the 17th and 18th Centuries

The Reception of Copernicus’ Heliocentric Theory

Abstract

I in company with most Polish historians do understand the term“reception” as the acceptance of certain ideological and scientific values and the manner in which they function, irrespective of what their author originally intended. In the case of the Copernican system, this will mean the process of a gradual penetration, with all its consequences to sciences, methodology and world outlook, of the heliocentric concepts into the scientific perception of the community.
