Abstract

Suppurative infections of the developing skeletal system, through their effects on growth, symmetry, posture and gait, may result in permanent disfigurement or crippling of an otherwise healthy child, especially when tardily or inadequately treated. Because of their frequency in childhood and their potential sequelae, a haematogenous osteomyelitis and septic arthritis will be emphasised in this chapter.
