Abstract
The principles by which Man lives change in content as well as intensity. As these principles arise from his need to gain a certain stability, they also differ in psychological weight for each individual although they are expressed in identical terms. Great confusion results from the fact that we cannot measure the weight of psychological values and that we can only determine their changing intensity by analyzing their relative weight in different cultural systems. It is to some extent the structure of each cultural system which determines the weight of values, in addition to the emotional tensions of each individual which is the other determining factor.
