Abstract
Metamorphism usually takes place in response to a rise of temperature. Progressive changes brought about in rocks by rising temperature are called progressive metamorphism. Successive rises of temperature bring about a series of reactions, which might be understood as changes of mineral assemblages approximately at equilibrium. In many cases, however, some minerals which formed at a lower temperature remain as unstable relics in the core of minerals that formed later.
