Abstract
There is a wide Precambrian craton in the northern and central parts of North America. Precambrian granitic and metamorphic rocks are exposed in the northern part, which is called the Canadian Shield, whereas these rocks are covered by relatively thin, undisturbed, unmetamorphosed Phanerozoic sediments in the central part, which is usually called the Interior Lowlands (fig. 13–1).
