Epidemiologic Aspects of the Problem of Congenital Malformations

  • Chapter
Problems of Birth Defects

Abstract

Increasing interest in congenital defects raises the question of their incidence. No extensive examination of the world literature was found so an attempt was made to provide a broad conspectus of the available data. This shows great variety of procurement and recording, and underreporting appears to be probable. The need for agreement on standardized diagnostic criteria and recording methods is emphasized.
