Europe 1992: From the Common to the Single Market

  • Chapter
Markets and Politicians

Part of the book series: Studies in Public Choice ((SIPC,volume 6))

Abstract

In this chapter I demonstrate how political motives and political credibility are at the heart of the European Community’s single market “1992” Programme. The Programme raises the political stakes of European politicians in implementing econimic policies that will give rise to a competitive internal market in the EC. The aim is to radically alter business expectations about the degree of competition in the internal market.
