Abstract
The publication of an article like Zvi Bodie’s reflects a substantial change that is relatively recent. Until a few years ago, pensions were the purview of a small number of academic economists and technical specialists in the government and private industry. When I first started working in the government, any meeting on pension issues was referred to as a MEGO meeting, which was “my eyes glaze over.” And literally, the wisdom that was frequently passed from one high level official to a successor was “Stay out of pensions” if you didn’t want to be bored to death or become ensnared in a technical jungle.
