Abstract

The initiation of succession in abandoned meadows and the course of its first phases are influenced by the floristic richness and diversity of the phytocoenosis Cirsietum rivularis. A diagram of the carr sere (Circaeo-Alnetum) has been presented in Figure 2.5, and the species taking part in the succession have been listed in Table 2.5. The diagram has been worked out on the basis of data from researches continued for 15 years in permanent plots located in meadows immediately after the cessation of mowing (i.e. in 1974), and in meadows abandoned in different years between 1960 and 1974.
