Tropical Glaciers and Climate

Climate Dynamics of the Tropics

Part of the book series: Atmospheric Sciences Library ((ATSL,volume 8))

Abstract

Tropical glaciers and ice caps are a particularly climate-sensitive component of the environment. It is then not surprising that international efforts directed at climatic and environmental change (UNESCO, 1970; World Meteorological Organization-ICSU, 1975, pp. 7, 11, 16; International Association of Hydrological Sciences -UNESCO, 1977; Temporary Technical Secretariat for World Glaciers Inventory, UNESCO-UNEP-IASH-ICSI, 1977; United Nations Environment Programme, 1979, pp. 5–17) have identified the study of glacier and climate relationships as a task of high priority.
