Abstract
I have been asked to pull together certain points that have been discussed during the past three days and which are relevant to the idea of the mapping of various aspects of friction. I shall refer to the presentations by J A Greenwood on roughness, A R Savkoor on sliding contact, T H C Childs on friction modelling, and myself on contact mechanics.
