Abstract
Ecology is the scientific study of the relationship between organisms and their environment. In this definition it is embedded that ecology may be approached from two sides: a reductionistic, where the relationships are found one by one and put together afterwards and a holistic one, where the entire system is considered and it is attempted to reveal properties on the system level.
