Abstract

A lattice gas model is used to analyze the ordering behavior of a binary alloy on a tetrahedral lattice. The interactions between the atoms are modeled by nearest neighbor and next nearest neighbor two body interactions, with a possible axial anisotropy in the direction of one of the bond directions. The absence of interactions between an odd number of atoms limits the model to the study of systems with a 50% concentration of each type of constituent atom. A renormalization group analysis is performed to find the bulk ordering, and the phase diagram of the system is obtained. A Monte Carlo analysis with diffusion dynamics is also performed on the same model, simulating the growth of a superlattice. Various rates of deposition at the surface is considered. The structure of the interface corresponding to this growth model is then analyzed
