Abstract
We have measured the ac magnetic permeability μ in YBa2Cu3O7 with Y2BaCuO5 inclusions and in single crystal YBa2Cu3O7, in applied magnetic fields parallel and perpendicular to the c-axis. We find that the inclusions act as strong pinning sites when H❙c, but have a deleterious effect on the superconductor when H⊥c.

We note here that the temperature position of the loss peak will depend on excitation frequency, field amplitude and orientation with respect to the c-axis.
