Summary
Since 1970 variation in phenotypic traits in a field collection of strawberry cultivars, including foreign varieties and clones as well as Romanian clones, have been investigated for potential use in breeding. The strawberry germplasm collection has been enlarged with genotypes obtained by intra and interspecific crosses, androgenesis, irradiation and organogenesis. The ample variability among the 192 Fragaria and 3 Potentilla genotypes, including 2×, 4×, 5×, 6×, 8× and 10× ploidy level, covers a wide range of potentially useful traits such as fruit quality, yield and pollen fertility.
