Abstract
The plant cell deposits its wall as a series of layers. The earliest layers are deposited at cell division, and the cell then lays down further material between the plasma membrane and the earlier layers. Thus the first-formed material is found at the point where the cell wall adjoins the cell wall of the neighbouring cell, and the latest-formed layers are closest to the plasma membrane (Section 3.1).
