Composition of Investigated Samples

Migration and Belonging

Part of the book series: Studies in Social Life ((SOSL,volume 5))

Abstract

Composition of the two samples of respondents, for the depth interview and for the written questionnaire, did not differ appreciably, although there were many more respondents to the latter than to the former. The composition is given according to age, family status, religion, profession and occupation (former and present), country of birth and length of stay in Israel. There were practically no differences between the immigrants and tourists who participated in the investigation, except that the latter comprised more unmarried people. The similarity is not surprising because of the fact that among the “tourists” were many would- be immigrants who had not yet made a definite decision to stay. About half of the respondents lived in the hostel attached to the Ulpan.
