Abstract
The problems touched upon in the written questionnaire are of interest from the point of view of the quality of the organization and the teaching methods of one of the Intensive Hebrew courses in Israel in the eyes of the students. They may also have a bearing on similar problems in institutes in other countries for instruction of new immigrants in the language, habits and customs of the country of resettlement. The data of this part of the research give a picture of the students’ opinions on conditions prevailing in the Ulpan, on the relations between them and the teachers and among themselves, on their expectations regarding the usefulness of the courses, on their feeling of being at home in the Ulpan, and on their psychosomatic complaints. Special attention will be paid to the question whether and to what degree a temporary community exists in the Ulpan. Chapter Fourteen will also deal with the relation between the students’ attitudes to these items, their psychosomatic well-being and cultural backgrounds.
