A Marketing Application of a Characterization Theorem

  • Conference paper
A Modern Course on Statistical Distributions in Scientific Work

Part of the book series: NATO Advanced Study Institutes Series ((ASIC,volume 17))

Summary

This paper is concerned with the application of statistical distributions in the marketing area, and in particular with stochastic models of consumer purchasing behaviour. Earlier work is briefly reviewed and then a characterization of the gamma distribution is used to justify some of the assumptions made in this earlier work, and also to provide a basis for building a general multi-brand purchasing model.
