Abstract
As has already been indicated in the introduction, it was van der Maarel who in 1971 was the first to compose a Standard List of the Netherlands Flora. On the basis of some four criteria he designated 1399 species of vascular plants as ‘Indigenous species’ (actually, it is more correct to speak of species which are considered to be part of the Netherlands flora).
