Abstract

Platelet concentration may be obtained either by the pooling of platelet rich plasma from singly collected units of whole blood or by the separation of whole blood in a flow system. At St Bartholomew’s Hospital both sources are used to obtain platelets for supply to patients with acute leukaemia. This study investigated the clinical effectiveness and laboratory characteristics of platelets obtained from the Haemonetics cell separator.
