Abstract

These conditions are characterised by increased right ventricular volume 39 197 and RV/LV ratio 118. Systolic septal motion is often paradoxical (fig. 4-1, 4-2), especially in severe cases, due to inversion of the septal curvature by the volume overload, so that during systole, the septum moves anteriorly towards the RV, when the transducer is positoned in the parasternal area (fig. 4-3, 4-4).
