Adolescents

Part of the book series: International Series in Social Welfare ((ISSW,volume 7))

Abstract

Is the concept of adolescence universally and uniformly defined and understood across cultures and time? What do we know about the adolescent stage of psychosocial development, and how empirically grounded is this knowledge? These and other philosophical and theoretical questions are addressed in this chapter to provide a foundation for discussions in later chapters of assessment and interventions with adolescent clients and their families.
