Abstract

Having already introduced and discussed two of man’s sense-giving virtualities, the moral sense and the aesthetic sense, a third is still to be acknowledged properly, and that is the sense which plays the most fundamental role in the human enterprise: the intelligible sense. The intelligible sense is a virtuality of the Human Condition which is unfolded in the work of the intellect as it accomplishes its task of setting up and maintaining patterns of ever recurrent order which, in our specifically human self-individualizing life progress, serve as a skeleton of order as much as the system of reference to be counted on in all the constructivity of human beingness. It sustains the mainstream of human self-interpretation-in-existence, and serves as a measuring stick for all the creative variations and imaginative projects of the human genius.
