Abstract

We are all aware of the emphasis that our scientific civilization places upon the quantitative method. A process, be it a behaviour pattern or a transformation of biological, human or material nature is scientific if it can be quantified. It is rational if the results of observation, if the description of the state of the things observed can be translated into quantities linked by algebraic or, in any case, formal relationships.
