Abstract
With electrical energy such a integral part of modern living and so necessary for economic progress, higher energy costs, both actual and projected, have adversely impacted on the public’s perception of utility management. In response utilities have taken increasing interest in demand side management and end use efficiency with the dual objectives of improving the economics of supply and reducing the customers energy costs. This in turn has created a need for flexible metering systems which can communicate between the customer/utility.
