Novel Ternary Fe-Rich Rare Earth Intermetallics

  • Chapter
Concerted European Action on Magnets (CEAM)

Abstract

The structures and the magnetic properties of some novel ternary compounds were studied. A large number of compounds have the approximate composition RFe10T2, where T represents Cr, V, Ti, Mo, W or Si. The crystal structure of these latter compounds can be derived from the tetragonal ThMn12 structure type. The crystallographic positions occupied by the different T atoms show marked differences. For 80 compounds investigated the lattice constants and Curie temperatures were determined. The invar properties of some representative compounds were investigated. Special attention was paid to the analysis of the magnetocrystalline anisotropy in these materials.
