Retrogression and Fluid Movement Across a Granulite-Amphibolite Facies Boundary in Middle Archaean Nuk Gneisses, Fiskefjord, Southern West Greenland

Abstract

Middle Archaean Nûk gneisses in the Godthåbsfjord-Fiskefjord area in southern West Greenland contain a gradational retrogressive metamorphic boundary between granulite and amphibolite facies gneisses. Movement of hydrous fluids during retrogression in this boundary zone transported and homogenised mobile major and trace elements, upset Rb-Sr and U-Pb isotope systems, contaminated the retrograded rocks with early Archaean lead, and led to formation of anatectic granites.
