Abstract
Recently, the [1.1.1] propellane 1 was reported to be the first hydrocarbon monomer which cleanly polymerizes with breaking of a CCσ-bond.1a In a ring – opening polymerization involving the central bond of 1, homopolymer 2, which has a rigid rod-like structure, was obtained. We now observed spontaneous copolymerization of propellane 1 and a typical vinyl monomer, acrylonitrile 3, giving the alternating copolymer 4.1b
