Abstract

Low density polyethylene, linear polyethylene and polypropylene films were photochemically crosslinked in the presence of different initiators. Their gel content, equilibrium swelling degree and stress-strain behaviour in the swollen state were determined. It was found that the correlations between crosslinking and chain scission reactions depend on the photoinitiators nature. Solid-state crosslinking causes trapping of entanglements with the following contribution to the effective network density determined by solvent swelling or stress-strain behaviour up to the melting point.
