Abstract
The idea of applied geography seems especially alluring, both theoretically and practically. Theoretically, it seems to lend an immediacy and robustness to geographical study. As Hare put it:
Geography for its own sake does little for my personal satisfaction. Geography conceived as a guide to sensible human action does a great deal (1977, p. 262).
