Abstract

The North-Eastern part of Siberia has been a raw material base of the Russian empire, the Soviet Union and now of the Russian Federation. Until the middle of the 20th century owing to the remoteness from industrial regions and the sparse density of indigenous population the ecological situation in the North stayed close to the natural state of environment. Approximately since the 1960s, the biosphere of the North began to function under the strong techno- and antropogenic pressure. As a result, North-Eastern Siberia should be considered as a region of the potential ecological disaster.
