Abstract

In Chap. 6, the instruments developed by the authors for the measurement of the six core social variables – education, labour status, occupation/job, household income, private household, and ethnicity – are compiled into an annotated questionnaire. This questionnaire constitutes an attempt on the part of the authors to produce socio-demographic standards for academically driven cross-national comparative survey research in the social sciences. The proposed standards could facilitate the comparative measurement of the core social variables in industrial and post-industrial countries in a social research context.
