Abstract
Complete determinism in science does not allow for free will. Free will in religion is therefore considered by many to be in conflict with scientific determinism. Interestingly, however, the problem for theology is preceded by an ancient one involving an internal contradiction between free will in religion and another important religious belief, namely, the concept of an omniscient God. It is shown that a solution to the problem of free will in science can lead to a solution of the conflict within religion as well.
