Abstract
In 1941, Quine was invited by the Office of the Coordinator for Inter-American Affairs to go to Brazil as a visiting lecturer. Quine accepted, and in May of 1942 he flew south – his first experience of air travel. With his extraordinary gift for languages, and his knowledge of Portuguese, Quine was able to lecture in the local language, and the lectures became a book, O Sentido da Nova Logica, that was published in 1944.
