Abstract

In this chapter, we seek to develop a different kind of perspective on model design. We hinted in the previous chapter that the model of the evolution of urban structure, presented in the retail context, was similar to the Lotka-Volterra model. It will be a helpful part of our tool kit, therefore, to explore what is known about such models and how they provide valuable additions. We will also find, by exploring other fields, that from our own urban and regional perspective, we can add something to these other models.
