Abstract

KTi0PO4 (KTP) has unique nonlinear and electrooptic properties, very attractive for a variety of applications in the field of nonlinear and integrated optics. At room temperature, it has a ferroelectric structure and exhibits a second-order displacive phase transition at about 952°C. Waveguide structures in this crystal were produced via exchange of K ions with monovalent ones such as Rb, Tl or Cs [1,2]. It was found that the waveguide parameters are very sensitive to the substrate orientation — it is almost impossible to form a waveguide on X- or Y-cut substrates, while diffusion proceeds intensively on Z-cut plates. The XRD measurements has shown very small change of the lattice constants with the composition [3] and a lower perfection of Rb:KTP crystal lattice, probably due to the difference in the ionic radii (K: 1.33, Rb: 1.49).
