Samenvatting
De zorg die een diepe hersenstimulatie (‘deep brain stimulation’, DBS)-team levert bestaat uit de preoperatieve screening, de operatie en de begeleiding in de postoperatieve fase. Als er na een eerste bezoek aan de medisch specialist een indicatie lijkt te bestaan voor DBS, vindt voorlichting plaats over DBS en alternatieve behandelingen. De preoperatieve screening vindt veelal plaats gedurende een korte klinische opname. Doel is de indicaties en de risico’s van complicaties in kaart te brengen. Na de preoperatieve screening vindt multidisciplinair overleg plaats. Het team besluit op een gestructureerde manier over de geschiktheid van de patiënt voor DBS. Na de operatie en een initieel intensieve periode van programmeren zal de patiënt verder laagfrequent onder controle blijven in het DBS expertisecentrum. Er dient ook aandacht te zijn voor de impact van de ingreep op het psychosociale en maatschappelijke vlak voor zowel de patiënt zelf als de eventuele partner en het gezin.
