Samenvatting

Diabetes mellitus is een chronische metabole aandoening die gepaard kan gaan met lichte cognitieve stoornissen en een verhoogd risico op dementie. Deze casusbeschrijving illustreert de klachten van vergeetachtigheid en een verminderd vermogen om vlot en flexibel te reageren die veel patiënten rapporteren. Neuropsychologisch onderzoek van een patiënt met diabetes mellitus liet een trage verwerkingssnelheid en een verminderde flexibiliteit zien die goed passen bij de ervaren klachten. Risicofactoren, oorzaken en behandelmogelijkheden worden besproken.
