Abstract

Obstructed defecation syndrome is a cause of constipation; symptoms include incomplete or unsuccessful attempts to evacuate, prolonged episodes on the toilet, rectal pain and tenesmus, digitations or perineal massage to aid defecation, and enema dependency. Fecal incontinence may be associated to gas or liquid stool, or urinary incontinence may be associated to the obstructed defecation syndrome (suggesting descending perineum syndrome). Obstructed defecation syndrome can be classified in different groups with different causes: Functional (pelvic floor dyssynergia)
