Gli interventi chirurgici rappresentano una parte significativa delle entrate di un ospedale e spesso una parte ancora maggiore del suo margine di contribuzione. Comunque sta diventando progressivamente più difficile aumentare i profitti in un ambiente sempre più competitivo. Molti ospedali pubblici sono orientati verso una medicina finalizzata al denaro più che agli interessi dei pazienti. Ciò significa che anche se non siete a capo del vostro dipartimento, è molto probabile che la vostra struttura esiga che voi conosciate il sistema economico dell’ospedale; inoltre, sarete “invitati” a perseguire gli obiettivi economici dell’ospedale e a uniformarvi alle sue regole.
