Neck-Preserving Implants in the Treatment of Femoral Head Avascular Necrosis

  • Chapter
Avascular Necrosis of the Femoral Head: Current Trends

Abstract

Total hip replacement represents the final solution in advanced stages (Steinberg IV, CAO V-VI) of avascular necrosis (AVN) of the femoral head. In the presence of wide structural and biological changes of the epiphysis, any other surgical procedure would have an inevitably poor outcome. However, several factors, strictly related to specific characteristics of the disease and the population involved, must be considered.
