Riassunto

Negli ultimi anni, per quanto concerne la valutazione del rischio, la ricerca scientifica, e con essa la letteratura clinica, si sono focalizzate quasi esclusivamente sullo sviluppo e sulla validazione di tecniche di valutazione strutturata. Eppure, nonostante la crescente attenzione riguardo la valutazione attuariale del rischio (discussa nel Cap. 2 da Monahan), la maggior parte dei medici si basa su un “giudizio” professionale strutturato o non strutturato, essenzialmente conducendo una valutazione clinica e raggiungendo così una conclusione a proposito del rischio di violenza. Una recente indagine condotta su psicologi forensi iscritti all’albo ha rivelato che misure formali di valutazione del rischio sono utilizzate raramente di routine (Archer et al., 2006); i valutatori forensi, invece, tendono ad inserire sempre più test psicologici specialistici per poter ricavare tutti gli elementi importanti per una stima del rischio di violenza dell’individuo.
