Gli adulti al di sopra dei 65 anni rappresentano una fascia demografica ampia e in aumento nella popolazione degli Stati Uniti d’America e, probabilmente, un bersaglio chiave nel mercato dell’industria del gioco d’azzardo. Tuttavia, si sa relativamente poco degli effetti del gioco d’azzardo sugli anziani. Questo capitolo inizia con una rassegna di quanto si conosce sulla prevalenza e sui fattori di rischio del gioco d’azzardo problematico e patologico negli anziani. Successivamente, verranno descritti i dati, relativamente scarsi, sugli effetti del gioco d’azzardo nella salute dell’anziano. Infine, vengono esplorate le questioni riguardo al trattamento che possono essere diverse nelle popolazioni di adulti e anziani (o che potrebbero essere peculiari degli individui anziani).
